October 29th
2006 Halloween Weekend 5:18 am
Hello
and Happy Halloween everyone!
Well, here we are again, friends.
Lets get to it.
Notre Dame 38-Navy 14.
Not only did Notre Dame win, but USC lost.
Great college game day for me, except for the fact that no one has
beat the Wolverines yet.
I guess we have a few weeks left.
Tonight, Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos.
Go Colts.
Predictions?….pain.
(a little “Rocky III” anyone?)
Got home from Mr. G’s a couple hours ago.
They had their big Halloween Costume Contest.
Scott came dressed in three inch platform shoes and an orange suit,
totally pimp-a-rific.
For those of you who missed it,
our buddy John got third place and 50 dollars (righteous bucks!)
I honestly can’t remember who actually won, but it was between a
belly-dancer and a “Gene Simmons,” with first prize winning $300 and
the second prize winning $150.
Very cool.
I think Gene’s friend, dressed as “Paul Stanley”, won a $100
bar tab at the club (just what we need, another drunk Paul Stanley running
around. Isn‘t one enough).
Thanks to Kevin and everyone at Mr. G’s for putting on such a
great party.
In case you didn’t know, Shawn and I teach guitar lessons through the
week. As
of this Monday, October 30, we will be teaching in our own studio, Sapen
Studios. There
will be a link on jasonsapen.com soon so that you can check out what we
have to offer, like clean, state-of-the-art lesson rooms, a virtual museum
of classic instruments and music nostalgia, a mini-movie theatre,
jukebox, and much more.
We will offer private and group lessons in piano, drums, guitar, and bass
guitar. Feel
free to contact me personally from the website if you or anyone in your
family may be interested in music lessons.
We will strive to ensure that you get the most out of your
instrument.
We will also be offering quality guitar set- up and repair services
at our new location, by none other than JSB’s bass man Scott Noyes,
with accessories for your every day guitar and percussion needs.
to our new location.
We will be having a CD release party for our album, “Dark To Dawn,” on
November 8th. It will be held at The Bistro On The Race in
South Bend.
JSB will be playing the night away (strumming our little hearts
out…you know how we roll,) and the Bistro will be raffling off a
vacation for two (see home page for details).
Everyone can enroll in the raffle on the 8th, and the
drawing will be held November 22nd.
We are all very excited about the release.
I’m sure everyone is tired of hearing about this CD, so if you
promise to buy one (or two), I promise to shut up about the whole thing.
Oh, and by the way, November 8th will also double as a
birthday party for my big brother, Aaron.
Can you believe he is going to be 42 this year.
I think he looks great for his age.
(don’t you?)
On November 9th, we will be recording a live DVD at Harrison
Landing.
We will need all the crowd noise we can get, so please come out.
This will be our chance to document the acoustic band, and we love
the sound and look at Harrison Landing.
We think it will be a great time, and it could be your chance to
tell the camera how much you love (or hate) the Jason Sapen Band.
We are looking forward to the shoot, and hope to see you there.
Also, keep you eye open for our article in the South Bend Tribune.
It should be in the entertainment section, unless they don’t
consider us entertainment, in which case it may be in the coupon section
or classifieds or someplace like that.
I believe it will run in the Sunday November 5th edition. Karen Rivers met with us at Starbucks to do the interview,
which was completed in record-breaking time, due to the mocha
lattes, espressos, etc. (I think we had coffee shots, too. What a party!)
Man, not to speak for everyone, but I was zinging up and down.
I can’t believe Karen could understand a word we said.
I can see the first line of the article now…”Well, the band
drank a gallon of Columbian coffee and jumped out of a
window….”
Well,
everybody, it's very late, but then again, it's always very late when I
write Jason's Corner.
Maybe next month I will try to write something during the daylight.
Oh, there's the daylight right now...mission accomplished.
See you 11-08.
Peace.
Jason

Congratulations Shawn
and Robin! |
Tuesday
September 26, 2006
2:34 am
Greetings and Salutations…
First of all…Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Russell!
Yep, that’s right, Shawn and Robin were married at
Clay
United
Methodist
Church
in
South Bend
on Saturday, September 23. It
was a lot of fun. We partied excessively for hours like you should at any
good wedding. Then we got to
watch the Irish pull it out in the last quarter against
Michigan
State
. It was a good day. So once again, congrats to you both. Just ask my
wife, being married is really, really, really great. (Yes, dear, I’m
getting off the computer right now, I promise.)
Got home a few hours ago from the photo shoot for the cover of the CD. I
will just say that I am glad I NEVER have to do that again.
I figure, after the first album, no one will want to look at me
anymore, so I’ll just stick to art work from now on.
However, Dave Stroup did a great job. If I ever get my picture
taken again, EVER, I will call him first. I am way too ugly for the
cameras. I guess I always saw
myself as the “Phantom of the Opera” type of musician that just hangs
out in his basement (or dungeon) all day long and plays music.
Sorry, lost track of myself there for a sec…. okay I’m back.
The good news is (for me anyway) the CD will be leaving for production
this week. We should be ready
to release by the first week of November.
So, remember kiddies, what do we want Santa to put in our dirty
socks this Christmas….? That’s
right…….! Be sure to check
out the music clips on the home page.
I have the slowest dial up ever, and I can load it in like a
minute.
Hope to see everybody this weekend! It’s
going to be a busy one.
This Thursday,
9-28, you can check out JSB at Gubi’s Restaurant. Try the alligator,
it’s
Gator-licious. On Friday,
9-29, you can catch JSB at Lakeshore Grill in
Elkhart
. I hope I don’t fall in the
lake again (it’s getting chilly!)
Both restaurants have “SilverStrike” Bowling video games, a
must for any quality establishment. I
am proud to say that my friend, Eric, holds the highest score I’ve ever
seen, at a whopping 267!!!
IMPRESSIVE…………….MOST
IMPRESSIVE! (But the emperor will complete your training.)
BLAMMO IS BACK AT CLUB LANDING! (inside, even.)
This Saturday,
9-30, Blammo will take Club Landing’s main stage at 9:45.
There, you will see my brother, Aaron, playing his bass on a bar
stool. To make a long story
short, my brother had surgery on his broken heel last week.
To make a longer story even longer, lets just say that there were
ninjas, maybe thirty or forty of them (maybe even a hundred, we lost
count. You try kicking 30 or
40 ninjas in the face with your heel and see how good it feels
We think he did a rockin’ job last weekend at Mr. G’s under
adverse conditions. In the
words of Freddie Mercury, “the show must go on!“ (see Aaron, it could
be worse.) I think he
will have a cast on Saturday, so everybody bring your sharpies
I hope they make it through the plastic detectors they just
installed at the landing.. disclaimer: Aaron reserves the right to
refuse cast signing to anyone, at anytime, for any reason.
Blammo……Club Landing……this Saturday..(look for a few new tunes,
perhaps.)
Well, I guess eating alligators, falling in lakes, fighting with ninjas,
Santa, and SilverStrike bowling will have to do for this edition of
Jason’s Corner. Please ,
feel free to contact me via email anytime.
I always enjoy hearing from you all.
Good night, or good morning- however you take it.
Go Irish.

Jason and friends
watching the ND-Georgia Tech game at the Russell's pig roast Labor Day
weekend
|
Hello,
Hello, and Hello!
Monday, September 4 Labor Day
Weekend 2006 3:30 am
Thank you for taking the time to check out the JSB website.
I would like to thank Steve Russell (Shawn’s dad) for all the
hard work he puts into this website EVERY DAY.
Just got home from the PS Dump Your Boyfriend show at Mr. G’s in
Osceola. The band rocked and I had
some drinks with some friends. (Du to number of drinks typing errors mayyy
occurr at any timme, though Steve will probably fix the worst ones.)
This was definitely a summer to remember.
I believe I played close to 70 shows in 90 days, a personal record (maybe
even a world record…we’re looking into it.)
BLAMMO had a rockin’ summer. It
was great to see all of our friends, as well as the new faces, partying
with us every weekend. For
Blammo, it was a summer of outdoor events. We played the U93 “Roofsit
2006”, The Rooftop
Rendezvous, and the Morris
Park Country Club Fireworks show. We
got the chance to play at our favorite outdoor venues… Club
Landing(South Bend) and Simeri’s (South Bend). We also got to play on
Gubi's (Elkhart) NEW STAGE. Scott,
Aaron, Mark, Rob, and I are looking forward to playing at Cagney's Saloon
in Elkhart this Friday (Sept.8) and our last Simeri's show for the season
this Saturday (Sept. 9.)
As for
JSB, we were very busy. We
played at The Bistro on the Race in South Bend every Wednesday this
summer, and had a blast. We are looking forward to playing at The
Lakeshore Grill in Elkhart on
Wednesday, September 13th and Friday, September 29th
.
THE CD IS FINISHED! Mixing and
Mastering are complete, and we are probably looking at a Halloween-ish
release date. While I’m on
the subject…
Ed Christensen and Scott Noyes. What
can I say? They have a way of
playing what’s in my head without saying it or writing it down.
Their enormous talent aside, their
support during my stages of the recording was greatly appreciated and not
taken for granted.
Shawn Russell. From his input
to his playing, you can hear Shawn’s influence on the CD.
He always brought a fresh perspective to the recording, and a
killer guitar solo on “Change” as well.
Chris
Szajko. I believe you
will hear his enthusiasm all over this CD.
He gave us all very helpful tips on how to have a successful
recording session, in addition to some arrangement ideas as well.
He does an outstanding job. When
we decide to record again, I
know we will go to Grand Master Studios.
In the end, we were all kind of sad to see the recording come to an end.
It was such a good time. JSB looks forward to performing these
songs in their electric form soon. As
for now, we will keep playing the songs on our little koostik guitars,
pouring our souls out with every
strum. (Sorry for that.. Again… it’s very late.)
Well,
it’s like 4:00 am right now, and I should get some sleep.
I will write as often as possible just to keep you guys posted on
what’s going on with Blammo, JSB, The Sapen Bros, and all of my musical
endeavors. The website is called “jasonsapen.com” after all.
(well, it is…..)
See
ya Soon,
Jason
